Planetweb(R) to Bring SpectraWorks(TM) for Digital TV Applications to TAEC TX49 RISC CPU Core Based ASSPs; Planetweb SpectraWorks to Deliver Improved Time to Market and Unique Customization Capabilities to Growing Digital Television Market
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Dec. 28, 2005—
Planetweb(R), a leading provider of embedded software
and developer tools for the consumer electronics industry, announces
SpectraWorks(TM) embedded user interface software platform for digital
television applications will support Toshiba America Electronic
Components, Inc.'s (TAEC's) powerful TX49 RISC CPU core based ASSPs.
Utilizing the SpectraWorks(TM) platform, Planetweb is developing a
suite of products designed to satisfy the Federal Communication
Commission's rules mandating that U.S. broadcast television services
must convert completely to digital operation. Products developed
utilizing TAEC's powerful low-cost TX49 RISC CPU core based ASSPs will
provide low cost, single chip solutions for the transition to digital
broadcast reception. Planetweb's SpectraWorks user interface and
applications platform will be used to develop a complete suite of
customizable applications, including display of program data (PSIP),
television controls and settings, value-added applications for digital
photography and digital audio.
The TAEC TX49 RISC CPU core based ASSPs running SpectraWorks will
be demonstrated January 5th - 8th at the 2006 Consumer Electronics
Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"In the highly competitive consumer electronics industry, and
particularly the rising digital television market, it is critical for
a company to get product to market quickly," said Michelle Abraham,
principal analyst at In-Stat. "At the same time, companies must
uniquely differentiate consumer electronic products in the highly
competitive marketplace. Streamlining the development process and
reducing the cost of bringing high quality products to market is
essential to the future success of leading CE manufacturers."
"SpectraWorks brings compelling new user interface options and
many value-added features to the leading edge silicon capabilities of
the TX49 RISC CPU core based ASSPs," said Shardul Kazi, vice president
of the Embedded Processor SoC Business Unit at TAEC. "This powerful
combination of technologies ensures that TAEC can meet the needs of
its OEM customers by being early to market with products of unmatched
cost effectiveness and customization capabilities."
"Planetweb is proud to deliver SpectraWorks to customers using the
powerful TX49 RISC CPU core based ASSPs," said Ken Soohoo, president
and CEO of Planetweb. "The high performance characteristics unique to
TAEC's single chip, TX49 embedded CPU ASSPs represent a significant
leap forward in low cost technology available for digital television
products, enabling an entire suite of new products to be developed."
SpectraWorks Enriches User Experience and Improves OEMs'
Time-To-Market
The SpectraWorks platform for consumer electronics applications
